The Melbourne Dental School is proud of its longstanding record of excellence in health research. Research at the School covers a broad range of scientific endeavours from basic science to clinical studies involving various disciplines including:
- Cancer cell biology
- Biochemistry & molecular biology
- Materials engineering
We do basic and translational research relevant to many aspects of human health, including:
- Understanding how oral microbes can cause both oral and systemic diseases by interfering with the immune system
- Understanding the causes of oral cancer
- Developing novel therapeutic agents and delivery technologies to prevent these diseases or repair damaged tissues
Our projects fall into the following themes:
- Host-microbe interactions in health & disease
- Microbiomes in health & disease
- Bacterial virulence
- Oral cancer
- Vaccine development
- Biomaterials for tissue repair & regeneration
- Life events & environmental effects on mineralised tissues

High-achieving students will be considered for the Noel Arthur Twiss Scholarship ($5,000) upon application, and after the closing dates .
