Meet: William Hong, Doctor of Dental Surgery

"I was attracted to the lifestyle and routine of dentistry, and the fact that there is scope to increase knowledge and skillsets beyond university – the learning doesn't end once I graduate!"

William started his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the Melbourne Dental School in 2016, after completing his Bachelor of Biomedicine in 2015 at the University of Melbourne.
"The reputation of the University of Melbourne and Melbourne Dental School had a huge sway over my decision to study here. The large emphasis on clinical work, especially with the uniqueness of having placements in a university-owned private clinic made the course attractive," said William.
William has volunteered his dental expertise in both Nepal (2017) and Cambodia (2018).

Outside of class, William is active in the student community. In addition to being Co-President of the Graduating Students' Committee (GSC), he is also part of the Australian Dental Student Association (ADSA) and Melbourne Dental Students Society (MDSS) to name a few.
"My involvement in various student clubs and committee has taught me valuable skills in team collaboration, event management, and people management. Getting involved in these societies and helping to run social and academic events has definitely enriched my student life."
After completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery, William intends to dive into clinical practice.
"I believe I have stuck to my plan of learning skills I can use for the rest of my career, and developing friendships that will last for the rest of my life."
William encourages current and future students to value their time and university.
"Pursue what truly interests you and what you enjoy; participate in as many things as possible while you have the time and energy."
