Deanne Catmull featured in Point Cook College National Science Week Program: “Amazing women in Science”

MDS Technical Officer Deanne Catmull was recently featured in Point Cook’s “Amazing women in Science” program.

The program was aimed at promoting women’s participation in Science. Deanne spoke about how she built her career in Science, why she loves working in the scientific field.

She also offered advice to young women looking to pursue a career in Science in the future.

“Not enough women celebrate their achievements, especially in Science. Be proud of your achievements.”

“Yes, it is a team effort in Research, but don’t be afraid to emphasise the importance of your contributions and your achievements within the team.”

She also emphasized to students the need to expected the unexpected and remain open-minded about their pathways in Science.

“I never thought that my Science degree would lead me to working in a Dental School but I’ve found that the research is exactly the same as what you would be doing in a cancer lab for example.”

“You are using the same skills to answer a different set of questions.”
