Oral Medicine & Oral Cancer's Major Milestones

At the 2025 Joint Meeting of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and the European Association of Oral Medicine in Las Vegas, three OMOC members were recognised for their outstanding work:

  • Dr Tami Yap presented MouthMap, demonstrating how AI is improving access to oral cancer screening.
  • Prof Michael McCullough delivered a masterclass in clinical oral mycology.
  • A/Prof Antonio Celentano moderated a key expert panel and won First Prize for Best Poster Presentation for his five-year research project on early oral cancer diagnosis - a project with real translational promise.

In addition, A/Prof Antonio’s article Can a cup a day keep cancer away? A systematic review exploring the potential of coffee constituents in preventing oral squamous cell carcinoma” has been recognised as one of the top-viewed articles in Wiley's Journal of Oral Pathology and Medicine. The team also published a Methods paper with WEHI, introducing the world’s first real-time, non-invasive, single-cell resolution screening method - offering promising advances in early diagnosis and patient outcomes.
