Academic Coordinator ensures students receive high-quality research training

We are delighted to announce that Dr Marija Edinborough has been appointed the inaugural Academic Coordinator for the Bachelor of Medical Science.  Marija will be supported by Bridget Nelthropp, Research and Graduate Research Coordinator.

Dr.

Marija and Bridget will work closely with the Melbourne Medical School and Roy Judge as Director International, to ensure students are provided with a high-quality research training experience.  The first cohort of 7 dental students have now arrived in Melbourne and are undertaking their first semester of the year-long degree.  We will be hosting a welcome session for them here in the Dental School soon, before they join us full-time for semester 1, 2023.

The Bachelor of Medical Science is a one-year program open to students currently enrolled in a Medical or Dental entry to practice degree and provides an experiential introduction to the process of biomedical research.  The program is well-established and has been successfully offered to medical students for over 20 years. This year, the university is welcoming the first cohort of Dentistry students to the degree. The degree is owned and fully coordinated by the Melbourne Medical School and in the first semester, medical and dental students learn alongside one another in a program offered via the Medical School. In the second semester (Semester 1 of the academic year) the dental students undertake a program in the dental school, including preclinical workshops, clinical observation, and will be required to complete an extended literature review.
