Our New PC2 Facility

A new Tissue culture area to allow students and staff to perform exciting research using Human Oral Cells.

The Melbourne Dental School has refurbished the old lab space to create a Tissue culture area to allow students and staff to perform exciting research using Human Oral Cell cultures in a safe and functional matter.

The transformation of our old laboratory space (namely room 5.202) was recently converted to our new PC2 facility.

Dr Antonio Celentano and Ms Rita Paolini collaborated with staff members of the Melbourne Dental school, which were very supportive, to make this happen!

The commitment to our students and research seeded the idea and allowed us to re-purpose a space which didn’t require a large financial investment to experience the benefits. This new space is compliant with the highest standards required for research conducted where bio-hazard risk exists. This was made possible by the Melbourne Dental School which funded various building works, purchase of new equipment and smart relocation of underused lab equipment, kindly given to the PC2 facility from various groups within the department.

The PC2 facility is fully equipped to make a great place for students and staff to perform research with all that is needed and an environment that encourages working together.

“A new, spacious lab, equipped with brand new equipment, that has allowed us to work more efficiently as a team and on multiple avenues simultaneously”, Sean Avery Albela (DDS2 Student) said.
