Dr Hossam Elhaddad discusses his vision for Melbourne Dental School's CPD Program

We spoke to the new academic CPD lead, Dr Hossam Elhaddad, about his vision for the future of the Continuing Professional Development Program at the Melbourne Dental School.

"Continued Professional Development is about more than counting hours to renew registrations – it is about learning new skills, updating knowledge, and becoming better clinicians so that, ultimately, we can provide better care for our patients. As part of one of the leading education institutions in Australia, the Melbourne Dental School has an opportunity to be a leader in CPD courses within the dental field. We have world-class clinicians, academics and support staff, state-of-the-art facilities, and the drive to provide a high standard of excellence in all our programs.

Harnessing this talent and expertise for the future of the CPD program, we hope to foster strong relationships with entities such as the Australian Dental Association (ADA), the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and other Australian and international universities. Collaborating to deliver joint courses, we see the opportunity to attract a variety of speakers and a wider range of attendees to our growing CPD offerings.

Going forward, we aim to create content with different modes of delivery covering a range of experience levels to cater for both foundational and more advanced practitioners. The challenges of last year have provided opportunities to develop our teaching tools within the online sphere; these will continue to evolve, creating engaging and dynamic learning experiences for our attendees. While maintaining sound principles of education, we are eager to take advantage of new technological capabilities to within our courses; currently we are exploring virtual reality headsets and smart glasses for implant education.

With so many exciting ventures on the horizon for the Melbourne Dental School CPD program, I am very honoured to be part of the CPD team, and am looking forward to working with the wonderful people of MDS to make it a reality."
