SHORT HISTORY

  • Graduated as a dental therapist in Melbourne in 1977, 18 years working for the Victorian School Dental Service as a clinical dental therapist, in management, and the dental health education unit.
  • Community Project Officer 1993-1995(designing and implementing the Waverly Pilot Preschool Dental program)
  • Long history of involvement (1976- present) with the Victorian and Australian Dental and Oral Health Therapists Associations,
  • Active advocate for public oral health at state and national levels, roles on several committees and associations
  • Spends one day a week working in a private orthodontic practice

TEACHING

  • 1996- Current:  Melbourne Dental School, University of Melbourne.
  • Course Coordinator, Bachelor of Oral Health
  • Social Sciences Stream co-ordinator, and convener Health Promotion, Community Health Studies, Oral Health therapy research
  • BOH Honours co-ordinator &  BOH Third Year Co-ordinator
  • Curriculum development and teaching in dental therapy and dental hygiene for the Bachelor of Oral Health since 1993.

  • Building Capacity of Doutta Galla Community Health to integrate Oral Health into the general health care services of the diabetic client
  • Development of an Oral Health Promotion Resource for Victorian Department of Human Services
  • Review of the Evidence for effectiveness of clinically based individual oral health education and promotion
  • Review of the Evidence for effectiveness of school based oral health education and promotion
  • Changing patterns of dental therapy employment and utilization since implementation of the Victorian Dental Practice Act 1999 (2006- 08)
  • Dental Therapy Adult Trials – To examine the capacity for dental therapists to provide oral health care to adult patients
